New Works Initiatives

Our mission states that we strive to empower audiences to create and enjoy art song, and to that end, Seattle Art Song Society will focus on the creation of new works through ongoing initiatives for the creation of new art songs.

We are pleased to announce our first new work initiative; "The Seattle Songbook." If you are a poet or composer and you are interested in contributing to the project, please contact the Artistic Director at artistic@seattleartsongsociety.org. We are compiling poems and songs that speak to the character and essence of Seattle and the Puget Sound Region. We are eagerly accepting submissions and hope to work alongside composer/poet pairings to create cycles and sets of songs to be premiered in a recital.

Other new works initiatives will be announced, but at any time we are willing to accept submissions from poets and composers.

Songscaping

Another exciting aspect of this facet of our mission is to go into public/private schools and work with children in workshops for the creation of songs using their poetry called Songscaping. We are interested in working with Language Arts teachers and Music teachers in the Seattle area to create opportunities for kids to explore their creative ability and enjoy the satisfying feeling achieved through artistic expression. Please contact us at info@seattleartsongsociety.org if you are a teacher or administrator interested in working with us on this program. We are especially interested in finding poems on Seattle to be included in The Seattle Songbook.

If you are a singer, composer, or pianist and are interested in going into schools to work with children through our program Songscaping, please contact us at info@seattleartsongsociety.org.

Please help us fund these exciting initiatives by going to the Donate page, and let us hear you say, "I am SASS!"
